Since the fall of Republican Afghanistan, the country has faced a converging crisis across multiple issues. Although the Taliban have consolidated territorial control, security remains fragile, diplomatic engagement remains strained with de facto authorities struggling for international recognition, and the human rights situation has deteriorated sharply, particularly for women and girls.
Afghanistan’s future is likely to be shaped by a complex array of factors, internal, regional and international. What these mean for internal affairs and regional stability remains to be seen.
Join us for a panel discussion on recent events in Afghanistan and its outlook for the future. Our panel, composed of Masoom Stanekzai, H.E. Wahidullah Waissi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, Maryam Popal Zahid and Sami Omari, will reflect on the situation since the decline and fall of Republican Afghanistan and the future outlook for security, diplomacy and human rights.
