Germany has formally requested the purchase of the US-made “Typhon” missile system, that is capable of firing Tomahawk cruise missiles and SM-6 interceptors.
Importantly, the system will be able to hit targets deep inside Russia, including Moscow.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, after meeting with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington, stated, “This will enable Germany to significantly increase its own defense capability, and also to significantly increase its deterrence capability, as well as that of Europe.”
Hegseth welcomed Germany’s interest in acquiring the system, signaling support for closer transatlantic defense cooperation.
This comes as U.S. Army, for the first time conducted a live-fire exercise with this weapon system outside of the continental United States, when it was used to successfully sink a target at sea, during Exercise Talisman Sabre 25 in Australia.
