Americans have rejected the “uniparty” in Washington and its warmongering, the Iranian academic has said
The Republican defeat in the US midterms could pave the way for a “third force” challenging America’s two-party establishment, University of Tehran professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi has told RT.
Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, with exit polls reported by Reuters and CBS News showing widespread frustration over rising living costs and opposition to the US war with Iran.
“This [Republicans’ defeat] is good news for Iran in a sense that it shows that people don’t want war,” Marandi told RT on Wednesday. Americans were “sick and tired” of Washington’s policies as their economic fortunes continued to decline, he added.

Marandi argued that both major US parties formed a political “uniparty” disconnected from public sentiment and pursuing virtually the same policies. If Washington continues to ignore voters, a “third force” could emerge within a couple of years, potentially involving figures such as conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, who hold views fundamentally different from those of the political establishment, he believes. He also cautioned that failure to change course could ultimately lead to violence.

In July, Carlson announced plans to help establish a third political party after breaking with President Donald Trump over the war with Iran. In an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review, he described the US political system as a “fraud” and a “one-party state posing as a democracy,” arguing that Republicans and Democrats were effectively united on war and economic policy. He ruled out running for office himself.
