As part of Operation Midnight Hammer, the U.S deployed B-2 Spirit bomber against Iran.
B-2s dropped 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators, 30,000 lb bunker busters, on two different sites -12 at Fordow and 2 at Natanz.
The strike was the largest B-2 operational strike in US history, as seven of these bombers, each with two crew members, flew 18 hours into Iran to drop the bunker-buster munitions. It was also the second-longest B-2 mission ever flown.
Top US general, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff revealed that the B-2 bombers that executed strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities seem to have broken in undetected.
He stated, "It appears that Iran’s surface-to-air missile systems did not see us. Throughout the mission, we retained the element of surprise."
While the degradation of Iran’s air defense network ahead of and during the US bombing run as well as the carefully orchestrated deception have played a part, but the stealth features of the B-2 was the primary factor.
