Ukraine’s Air Force reported that an American-made F-16 jet operated by Ukrainian forces successfully knocked down six Russian cruise missiles during a single mission.
Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat stated that the interception occurred on December 13, 2024, amidst a large-scale Russian aerial assault involving nearly 200 drones and 94 missiles.
This record-setting achievement marks the first time an F-16 fighter jet has neutralized such a high number of targets in a single engagement, underscoring the aircraft’s pivotal role in Ukraine’s air defense.
While initial concerns about pilot training were heightened by the tragic loss of a Ukrainian pilot shortly after the F-16s’ delivery, this successful deployment of the fighter jet is a significant morale boost for Ukraine’s forces.
