A lesser known US weapon is saving lives.
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad faced a sustained engagement involving Iranian-origin attack drones, prompting the activation of its integrated air defense systems.
According to Iraqi security officials, both rockets and unmanned aerial systems were launched toward the heavily fortified Green Zone, triggering defensive responses within the area.
The Green Zone—formally known as Karradat Mariam—is a 10-square-kilometre (3.9 sq mi) secure district in central Baghdad. It serves as Iraq’s administrative core, housing key government institutions, the U.S. Embassy, and multiple diplomatic missions.
At the forefront of the defensive effort was the Centurion C-RAM system. Multiple interceptions were reported, with loud explosions heard across the capital as the system successfully neutralized incoming threats.
