How the Venezuela-Guyana border almost started a U.S.-British war

Last week, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro threatened to annex nearly three-quarters of neighboring Guyana. One origin of the longstanding border dispute stems from a U.S. intervention more than a century ago, during which Washington was on the side of Venezuela — not Guyana.
