A new type of ammunition for Main Battle Tank is set to change their combat efficacy.
Europe’s leading missile manufacturer, MBDA’s debut of the Akeron MBT 120 at DSEI 2025 introduces a potentially disruptive capability to the modern battlefield: a gun-launched, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) guided munition that lets 120 mm main battle tanks engage targets they cannot see directly.
Designed to fit within the dimensional and handling constraints of standard NATO 120 mm ammunition racks, the Akeron MBT 120 promises to add an organic indirect-fire and precision-strike option to tank units without major vehicle modifications.
