An interesting concept has been displayed at Sea-Air-Space 2025 maritime exposition.
General Atomics, which is advancing several cutting-edge technologies, has for the first time showcased a podded air-to-air laser system mounted on the MQ-9B platform. This new airborne laser pod, highlighted in detail at the event, is being proposed as a fleet defense solution specifically targeting one-way attack drones.
The laser is part of General Atomics’ Laser Weapon Systems portfolio, built around the scalable High Energy Laser (HEL) Weapon System. It features a 25kW-class laser that can be scaled up to 300kW in both pulsed and continuous wave configurations and is designed to operate effectively in all environments.
