7 weeks into the offensive, only 8 villages returned to Ukraine, with no apparent breakthrough. The cost for such meager gains was staggering. One in three vehicles prepared for the offensive ended up destroyed or damaged. The combination of minefields, artillery and anti-tank weapons proved too difficult. Ukrainian troops are exhausted and very little reserves are left to carry on the counteroffensive.
