Competitiveness across the Indo-Pacific is increasing with risks and uncertainties from a number of factors rising. The cascading effects of these risks are being felt across the spectrum with an increase in defence spending and security measures, and, more protectionism on the one hand, and with decreased focus on human and environmental security on the other. These uncertainties provide emerging economies and middle powers like India and Australia to build upon their growing ties to forge new partnerships with countries in the region, explore avenues to build local and regional resilience and collectively engage in mitigating long-term risks. A number of opportunities exists that can be scaled to enhance habits of cooperation on shared issues, strengthening regional peace, stability, and prosperity during crisis.
