Ukraine will likely soon have a key new weapon.
The Wall Street Journal reported on August 23, 2025, that the United States has approved the transfer of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munitions (ERAM) air-launched weapons to Ukraine.
The deal, worth about $850 million and largely funded by European partners, is set to begin deliveries within six weeks.Approval came only after President Donald Trump held high-profile talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, underscoring the political stakes tied to the decision.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as many other leaders in the Ukrainian armed forces, have time and again highlighted the need for weapons that can engage Russian assets from long ranges.
ERAM should not be confused with the RIM-174 Standard ERAM (or SM-6), a missile in U.S. Navy service for air defense role.
Real picture of this munition is not available and images used here are representative.
