A notable surge in U.S. force deployments across the Middle East has heightened anxiety in Tehran, where policymakers and analysts are weighing whether Washington is preparing for military action or attempting to strengthen its hand in nuclear diplomacy.
According to several American media reports, national security advisers have briefed President Donald Trump that sufficient air and maritime strike capabilities are now in place in the region to enable operations on very short notice—potentially within days.
The expanded military posture comes in the wake of a second round of U.S.–Iran nuclear discussions in Geneva that concluded without any meaningful breakthrough.
Viewers will recall that during his first administration, President Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear agreement, citing Iranian non-compliance, and subsequently imposed sweeping economic sanctions.
Tehran retaliated by progressively discarding the accord’s restrictions on uranium enrichment. After taking office, President Joe Biden indicated openness to rejoining the nuclear framework, but efforts to revive the agreement ultimately failed to produce results.
