According to CNN, a U.S. warship had to engaged a Houthi missile by utilizing its Mark 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) for the first time.
The warship is USS Gravely and the engagement took place in the Red Sea.
It is unclear how the missile evaded the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer’s Aegis Combat system
Viewers may note that ‘Phalanx CIWS’ is a last-ditch defense.
According to CNN, CENTCOM said that there were no injuries or damage from that incident, however, that missile came within 1 mile or 1.6 km of the Gravely.
