Tehran has lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir for their initiative to end the war

Iran has thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire in the war with the US and Israel.

Pakistan has invited Iran and the US to its capital, Islamabad, on Friday to settle all disputes and end the conflict.

“I express gratitude and appreciation for my dear brothers Prime Minister of Pakistan [Shehbaz] Sharif and Field Marshal [Asim] Munir for their tireless efforts to end the war in the region,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in astatement on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.

Araghchi said the ceasefire comes in response to a US request for negotiations based on Washington’s 15‑point proposal and President Donald Trump’s acceptance of the general framework of Iran’s 10‑point plan.

“For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations,” the Iranian Supreme Council statement shared by Araghchi said.

Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif announced a ceasefire earlier on Wednesday, saying Iran and the US have agreed to halt the hostilities.

“Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability,” Sharif said in his post.

The Pakistani leader added that he hoped the Islamabad talks would succeed in achieving sustainable peace.

Trump also announced the ceasefire to negotiate a long-term peace agreement based on a “workable” 10-point proposal from Tehran delivered via Pakistan. The US leader stated that he agreed to the ceasefire following talks with Sharif and Munir.

Sharif had previously asked Trump for a two-week deadline extension after the US president threatened “a whole civilization will die” if Tehran does not yield to his demands.

“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.

Trump has, however, warned that the Iranian plan is not satisfactory to the US in its current form and that he would order devastating new airstrikes if no final deal is reached by the new deadline.
