New Delhi is ready to contribute in every possible way to end the conflict, the Indian leader has told Vladimir Putin
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine cannot be resolved on the battlefield and should be settled through diplomacy, and New Delhi is ready to contribute to such efforts, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
India is in “regular contacts” with Russia over the conflict, Modi noted as the leaders held bilateral talks in Kazan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.
“As I have said before, we believe that problems should be resolved peacefully, and we fully support the earliest possible establishment of peace and stability,” the prime minister said.
Modi reiterated New Delhi’s stance on the need to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing India’s willingness to facilitate peace talks.
“In all our efforts, we give priority to humanity, and we are ready to contribute in every possible way in the future,” he stated.
India has refused to condemn Russia over the Ukraine conflict and continues to engage extensively with Moscow despite pressure from the West. It has also maintained contacts with Kiev.
Minister of Foreign Affairs S. Jaishankar earlier this year noted that there are not many countries and leaders that can engage with both Putin and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky.
Modi has met with both the Russian and Ukrainian leaders several times in recent months. He met with Putin in July in Moscow, his first state visit since being re-elected. He has also met with Zelensky on at least three occasions since June, both on the sidelines of global gatherings and in Kiev.
