Ukrainian attack on Russian region injures 7 – governor

A missile strike on the city of Belgorod and its suburbs has killed one civilian as well

One civilian was killed and seven wounded in a Ukrainian missile attack on Russia’s Belgorod Region, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has said.

Belgorod is due north of Kharkov. Both the city and the surrounding region have been under frequent attacks by long-range Ukrainian artillery, often firing projectiles supplied by NATO.

“Our air defense system worked over Belgorod and several targets were shot down as they approached the city,” Gladkov said on Telegram on Friday evening. “To our great sorrow, one person died as a result of a direct hit on a passenger car.”

In addition to the vehicle, an apartment building and several commercial buildings were struck, Gladkov said.

Preliminary information from emergency services indicated that seven civilians have been injured in Belgorod and its suburbs. Two houses caught fire in nearby Dubovoye, Gladkov added. Fire crews have been dispatched to deal with the blaze, while ambulances have delivered the injured to area hospitals.
