At least 13 people have been injured in Kursk amid a cross-border incursion by Kiev’s forces

Ukrainian forces launched a major missile attack on the Russian city of Kursk overnight Saturday into Sunday. One projectile which was hit by local air defenses struck a nine-story apartment building.

As a result of the strike, the windows of the structure were broken and the building caught fire, along with several cars parked nearby. Several nearby stores were also damaged. The regional headquarters of the Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) reported that the fire has been extinguished.

According to the local authorities, at least 13 people were injured, two seriously. They have all been hospitalized. A total of 45 residents have been evacuated from the building and offered temporary accommodation. All of the victims will be offered financial compensation, the local authorities said.

Acting regional Governor Aleksey Smirnov took to Telegram on Sunday night, calling the incident – which occurred amid a cross-border incursion by Ukrainian forces – “another treacherous attack on the civilian population.”

Kursk Mayor Igor Kutsak created a commission to assess the scale of the damage to the structure. The emergency services have been working at the site since the early morning, sorting through the debris. According to a preliminary report by EMERCOM, the load-bearing structures of the building were not damaged.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 14 Ukrainian UAVs and four tactical missiles were destroyed by air defense systems over Kursk Region overnight.
