The Russian leader is being sworn in for his fifth term in office in a solemn ceremony at the Kremlin
The inauguration of Vladimir Putin, who is taking his fifth oath of office, is underway at the Moscow Kremlin.
The 71-year-old veteran politician was reelected president earlier this year with a record tally of 87.28% of the votes.
The principal elements of the ceremony remain unchanged since 1996, when it was used to begin Boris Yeltsin’s second term in office, though some details may be new, according to the Kremlin. Putin is expected to use an updated version of the presidential vehicle, the Aurus Senat, during the event.
