The raid is proof that Kiev’s forces are committing war crimes, Russian Senator Dmitry Rogozin has said

A Ukrainian kamikaze drone attempted to dive into a civilian car on a road in Russia’s Zaporozhye Region, but the driver was able to dodge the attack, according to local senator Dmitry Rogozin, who released the video of the incident.

In a social media post on Saturday, Rogozin, who used to head Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, said the attack took place not far from the village of Lyubimovka on the highway between the city of Melitopol and the village of Vasilyevka, about 20 kilometers from the front.

A 12-second video shared by the senator shows a large drone descending on what appears to be a civilian SUV, with an explosion occurring just feet from the vehicle as it quickly swings to the side. The attack apparently caused no casualties.

Commenting on the video, Rogozin noted that he was surprised by the driver’s quick reaction, suggesting that he could have spotted the drone in his rear-view mirror or received a warning from another car. “Either way, he just got lucky,” the senator added.

Rogozin went on to stress that there was no reason to believe that the vehicle could have had any connection to the Russian military, with all signs supporting the notion that it was civilian. “This is living proof that we are dealing with war criminals in the Ukrainian army,” he noted.

The senator also said it was not clear how the Ukrainian drone was able to travel more than 20 kilometers to strike a target on a key highway. “Apparently, we need to look for an enemy relay on our side, which allows FPV-drones to travel so far,” he wrote.

Russia has accused Ukraine of regular, indiscriminate strikes on civilian infrastructure and residential facilities as well as deliberate strikes on non-military vehicles, including ambulances. On Tuesday, Russian officials said that a Ukrainian drone attacked a school bus in Zaporozhye Region, injuring the driver and five children.
