The president’s proposal to take over Gaza amounts to ethnic cleansing, according to Democratic Representative Al Green
Democratic US Congressman Al Green has announced his intention to file articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump over his proposal to “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians.
Trump floated the idea this week during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to redevelop what he referred to as the “demolition site” that the enclave has become following the 15-month conflict between the IDF and Hamas.
He described his vision for transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” outlining a plan for the US to clear the area, rebuild infrastructure, and create jobs and housing. Trump also reiterated his earlier call for Palestinians to be permanently resettled outside of the enclave.
Netanyahu praised the proposal, calling it “remarkable,” arguing that it simply gives Gazans the freedom to leave if they choose.
Speaking on the House floor on Wednesday, Green condemned Trump’s plan as “a dastardly deed” that amounts to ethnic cleansing, “especially when it emanates from the president of the United States, the most powerful person in the world.”

The Texas congressman also criticized Netanyahu, stating that the Israeli prime minister “should be ashamed, knowing the history of his people, to stand there and allow such things to be said.”
Trump’s proposal has sparked global outrage, with world leaders and humanitarian groups warning of dire consequences for regional stability and Palestinian rights.
Green went on to declare, that “the movement to impeach the president has begun,” vowing to introduce articles of impeachment for both his “dastardly deeds proposed” and “dastardly deeds done.”
Green tried three times to impeach Trump during the US president’s first term in office. All attempts failed.
Trump was nevertheless impeached twice during his first term by the Democrat-controlled House – first in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over allegations that he sought Ukraine’s help in the 2020 presidential election, and again in 2021 for inciting the January 6 Capitol riot after losing to Joe Biden. The Senate acquitted him both times.
“I did it before. I laid the foundation for impeachment and it was done,” Green stated on Wednesday. “I know that it’s time for us to lay the foundation again,” the congressman said.
However, according to a Politico report, Green’s new impeachment push is unlikely to gain much traction. The newspaper was told by the No.3 House Democrat Pete Aguilar that impeachment was not an immediate focus of his caucus.
Some media outlets also pointed out that Green had previously supported billions of dollars in US aid to Israel under the Biden administration, raising questions about his reluctance to pursue impeachment against the former president, who has faced widespread accusations of enabling Israeli “genocide” in Gaza.
