The Belarusian leader said the US President shouldn’t have spent half of his inauguration speech belittling his predecessor

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he was disappointed with one aspect of US President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, pointing to the Republican’s remarks about his predecessor Joe Biden.

During a conversation with workers at the Minsk Automobile Plant on Tuesday, he admitted that he was “not thrilled with Joe Biden” during his tenure in the White House. However, he also felt that Trump shouldn’t have focused on him so much during his inauguration speech.

”I looked at him, he looked somehow more decent than Trump himself. He sat there, slumped down,” Lukashenko recalled, suggesting that it was obviously all over for Biden and that Trump had already said everything there was to say about the aging Democrat and didn’t have to spend half his speech discrediting the “poor old man.”

“We saw this poor Biden sitting there, drooping his arms, together with Kamala Harris,” Lukashenko said, going on to call the former vice president, who failed to win in last year’s election, a “poor woman” who was “thrown to the surface against Trump.”

“She fought, she held on tight. And we must give her credit. There is no need to destroy them,” the Belarusian president said, noting that this is just his “emotional impression.”

Lukashenko said he tuned out of the inauguration ceremony once Trump started slandering Biden and Harris, insisting that a president should not offend and insult those who were before him and should instead focus on fixing the mistakes of the past administration.

Previously, Lukashenko had stressed that Belarus must not allow its upcoming presidential election, which is scheduled for January 26, to devolve into an “American-style show where people get shot in the ear or the head,” referring to last year’s race in the US, where Trump survived two would-be assassins.

”We need this election to be conducted in a dignified manner, so we avoid unnecessary criticism,” he said.
