Austria has provided the Aviation Detachment of the EUFOR mission since 2005. After 18 years, the MEDEVAC and tactical air transport service will be taken over in full by Hungary.
On May 28, 2023 at around 20:30, EUFOR was requested by the Ministry of Security to assist in the rescue of an injured mountaineer in the VELEZ mountains near MOSTAR. EUFOR MEDEVAC was deployed and succeeded in rescuing an injured man in distress and provide medical care under the most difficult conditions. The mission ended at 02:20 with the MEDEVAC helicopter landing back at Camp BUTMIR.
