Donald Trump ally Mike Johnson opposed the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election win and has also voted against additional aid to Ukraine

Mike Johnson, a staunch supporter of former US President Donald Trump, has been elected the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This decision comes after weeks of congressional gridlock and signals a noticeable shift towards the right wing for the Republican party in the lower chamber.

This challenge emerged following the removal of Kevin McCarthy due to a rebellion led by Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, which persisted for over three weeks.
