The agreement has helped lower American fuel prices and could pave the way for broader economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev has said

The Russia-US diesel deal has already helped lower American fuel prices and could pave the way for broader economic cooperation between Moscow and Washington, Russian presidential aide Kirill Dmitriev has said.

Speaking to RT on Wednesday, Dmitriev, who also heads Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, described the agreement as a win-win for both countries and a “great help to global markets.”

“Diesel futures in New York fell by 5% on the announcement of this cooperation between Russia and the US,” he said.

The agreement was announced on Friday following a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump. The US Treasury subsequently issued a temporary sanctions waiver allowing Russian diesel to be sold, delivered and imported into the US until April 7, 2027.

Trump said Moscow would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to US and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and one million tons shortly thereafter. Up to three million additional tons could become available “within a short period of time,” he added.

The arrangement is aimed at easing soaring fuel prices amid global supply disruptions caused by the US-Israeli war with Iran.

Dmitriev argued that the immediate market response demonstrated the economic benefits of cooperation and the costs of maintaining sanctions against Moscow.

“We are seeing that lifting [US] sanctions on Russian diesel is having an immediate positive effect, including for American farmers [and] the American economy,” he said.

The presidential aide also accused the EU of hypocrisy for criticizing Washington’s decision while continuing to purchase Russian energy.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak recently estimated that the bloc had spent more than $320 billion on Russian energy since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, despite claiming to have sharply reduced its imports.

Trump similarly lashed out at Brussels in a Truth Social post on Monday, insisting that he had “made the right choice for the American People.”

Novak has welcomed Washington’s decision as a step toward stabilizing global energy markets and restoring normal trade. He also announced that Moscow would begin immediately lifting its own restrictions on diesel exports.
