Historically, there are few supply/demand shocks quite like a full scale conventional war. Demand for weapons, ammunition, and just about everything of military use tends to spike, just as wartime conditions put pressure on the ability of the economy to supply them.
Some nations fastidiously prepare for wartime demands by stockpiling and preparing enough to cover their needs until industry can catch up….and some don’t.
For those nations caught in a supply squeeze, the imperative is often to find something, anything to help fill the gaps.
And so today let’s talk about wartime weapon shortages and how nations might try to substitute, simplify, or simply suffer their way through the problem .
