The Russian president has hailed the capital’s contribution to the military, technological development and restoration of Donbass
Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Moscow’s contribution to the country’s military and technological development, declaring that Russia will overcome the challenges it faces because they are “temporary and transient.”
The president made the remarks during an address marking Moscow’s 879th birthday, traditionally celebrated in early September. Putin congratulated residents of the capital and Russians across the country, describing Moscow as a symbol of Russian statehood, unity and resilience.
“Together with all citizens of our country, we will overcome any difficulty and any challenge. They are temporary and transient, while Moscow and Russia are eternal,” Putin said.

He drew parallels between the challenges facing the country today and key episodes in its history, including the 1812 French invasion and the Battle of Moscow against Nazi Germany in 1941.
“Today, the capital, together with the entire country, has mobilized all its forces, like 85 years ago, for the sake of the common rightful cause. Tens of thousands of Muscovites are fighting against the neo-Nazis on the line of engagement, advancing and displaying valour, courage and heroism.”
Putin highlighted Moscow’s contribution to Russia’s military-industrial sector, saying more than 450 defense plants, high-tech enterprises and companies in the capital are producing goods for the needs of the armed forces.
Moscow hospitals are also playing a major role in treating and rehabilitating wounded servicemen, Putin said, while specialists from the capital are involved in reconstruction efforts in Donbass.
