The court found that Yabloko received funds from individuals financed from abroad and violated copyright law in its campaign materials

Russia’s Supreme Court has removed the liberal Yabloko party from the ballot for the parliamentary elections in September, granting a lawsuit filed by the Rodina party.

Registered in 2001, Yabloko is one of Russia’s oldest political parties, tracing its roots back to an electoral alliance established in 1993.

Yabloko last made it past the 5% hurdle in 1999, securing 20 seats in the Russian parliament. It garnered only 1.34% of the vote during the previous parliamentary elections in 2021.

On Monday, presiding judge Vyacheslav Kirillov ruled that Yabloko violated the law by receiving funds from individuals who had themselves received financing from foreign states.

Additionally, the court found that the party committed copyright infringement in its campaign materials, including the unauthorized use of photos of public figures as well as excerpts from a feature film.

Yabloko chair Nikolay Rybakov told reporters that the party would appeal the court’s decision within the five-day period provided by law.

The 2026 parliamentary elections will take place September 18-20, with a total of ten parties contending for the 450 seats in the lower house of the Russian parliament.
