Israel is the primary source of instability, insecurity, and tensions in the Middle East, Mohammad Fathali tells RT India

The US-Iran peace deal to end the Middle East conflict is a strategic achievement for Tehran, its envoy to New Delhi has told RT India.

While its details have not been disclosed, it is clear that the agreement is “a highly significant strategic achievement” for Iran, Mohammad Fathali told RT India.

“In my view, this agreement constitutes a major victory for the Iranian nation,” he said.

Those who spoke of “regime change” and the “complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear capabilities” failed to achieve those objectives, the envoy said.

“They have also been compelled to recognize the nuclear rights of Iran,” Fathali said. He added that Iran has always emphasized the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Iranian people to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The realities on the ground and the economic and strategic consequences of a prolonged war have also forced the United States to opt for a peace deal, he said.

“The continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz was harming not only the global economy but also the interests of the United States and its allies, imposing significant costs on international trade and global energy security,” Fathali said.

He made clear that Iran does not intend to impose transit fees on countries for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. “However, charges will be collected for services provided to passing vessels, such as navigation services, marine environmental protection, and vessel insurance,” he said.

A fifth of the global energy supplies passed through the choke point controlled by Iran, and its closure following the US-Israeli attack on Iran had sent energy prices soaring, sparking inflationary pressures across the globe.

Fathali rejected Israel’s statement that it is not a party to the deal, calling it “an attempt to justify the illegal and aggressive actions” in Lebanon and other parts of the region.

The envoy said Israel was primarily to blame for the instability, insecurity, and escalating tensions in the region.

Tehran believes that trust in US intentions could be gauged only through “practical evidence and genuine adherence to commitments.”

He also called the attacks on commercial vessels and the loss of Indian sailors’ lives “regrettable, inhumane, and contrary to all principles and norms of international law and humanitarian law.”

Three commercial ships were attacked by US forces near the Strait of Hormuz, and three Indian sailors on board one of them were killed.
