The Mk 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) is one of the most influential naval weapon systems developed since the end of the Cold War. Designed by the United States and now deployed by numerous allied navies around the world, the Mk 41 provides warships with a flexible, modular, and highly scalable missile-launching capability. Rather than being dedicated to a single weapon type, the system serves as a universal launcher capable of accommodating a wide range of missiles for air defense, ballistic missile defense, anti-submarine warfare, land attack, and anti-ship missions.
