The alleged agent was shot in Moscow Region after opening fire on officers attempting to arrest him
A man allegedly acting on behalf of Ukraine has been killed in Moscow Region in a shootout with law enforcement officers, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Tuesday.
The suspected was intercepted while retrieving a bomb for a planned attack at a Russian defense plant, the agency said.
According to the FSB, the man had established contact with Ukrainian intelligence services some time ago and had carried out multiple assignments before being identified by Russian counterintelligence. The missions reportedly included weapons smuggling, arson attacks targeting Russian railways, and surveillance of potential sites for sabotage operations.
His most recent plan reportedly targeted a defense facility, where he had secured employment. The FSB said officers caught the man in the act of retrieving an explosive device from a hidden cache. The suspect opened fire during the arrest attempt and was shot dead by officers, the agency said.
A search of the body recovered what authorities described as a radio-controlled explosive device disguised as a power bank, as well as a modified starter pistol capable of firing live ammunition. The incident is being investigated as an attempted terrorist attack.
