At least two MQ-9 Reaper have been spotted in Puerto Rico, joining 10 F-35 fighter jets recently deployed to the region.
They were sent as part of anti-drug trafficking operations being conducted by the U.S. military in the southern Caribbean. The jets and drones join a large naval presence in the area that includes several destroyers, a Marine Expeditionary Unit, and at least one submarine.
Reaper’s main sensor is the nose-mounted MTS-B multi-spectral surveillance and targeting turret and its fuselage-mounted Lynx synthetic aperture radar.
Additionally, many other payloads can be added like electronic warfare pods and Ground Moving Targeting Identification (GMTI) sensor.
The Reaper’s hard-points give it the ability to deploy 2,500 lbs or 1100 kg of weapons which includes AGM-114 Hellfire, GBU-12 Paveway, and GBU-38 JDAM munitions.
