Kirill Dmitriev’s comments came after the Russian president held a face-to-face meeting with Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s economic envoy has said he is confident Moscow and Washington can find common ground through diplomacy. His remarks followed a visit to the Kremlin by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, which focused on the Ukraine conflict.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Dmitriev, who is CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), thanked his followers in English for “kind wishes for a successful visit of Steve Witkoff to Moscow,” adding that “Dialogue will prevail.”

Dmitriev was among the Russian officials to welcome Witkoff at Vnukovo Airport, and the two were later seen walking through Zaryadye Park near the Kremlin. Later in the day, Witkoff held face-to-face talks with Putin, which lasted around three hours.

Thank you all for your kind wishes for a successful visit of @SteveWitkoff to Moscow. 🇷🇺🇺🇸🕊️

Dialogue will prevail. 🤝

Footage obtained by RT showed the US envoy’s motorcade leaving the Kremlin following the meeting.

Commenting on the talks, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov noted that the sides had had a constructive and productive conversation which focused on the Ukraine conflict and “prospects for US-Russia strategic cooperation.”

The talks come as Trump has threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia unless it makes progress toward a peace agreement in Ukraine. The proposed measures include 100% tariffs and secondary sanctions aimed at nations trading with Russia, particularly in the oil sector.

Moscow, however, has said it has developed a degree of resistance to Western sanctions, stressing that demands for sovereign states to halt economic ties with Moscow have no legal basis.
