As China adopts an ever-growing belligerent approach, Japan’s military is getting its act together.
Japan is set to begin deploying its first ASM-3A supersonic anti-ship missiles on fighter jets this year, signaling a move away from the use of older subsonic air-launched anti-ship systems. The development was reported by Japanese news outlet Jwing.
The ASM-3A, short for Air-to-Surface Missile Type 3A, is a supersonic anti-ship missile developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a next-generation replacement for the aging ASM-1 and ASM-2 systems. This deployment represents a significant tactical advancement for Japan and could be one of the most consequential military developments in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years.
