An incredible feat seems to have been achieved during India’s Operation Sindoor.
According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, the Indian Air Force (IAF) reportedly has evidence indicating that a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Saab 2000 Erieye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft was shot down by an Indian S-400 air defense system—over 300 kilometers (approximately 185 miles) inside Pakistani territory.
The article, authored by Shishir Gupta, a journalist known for his close ties to the Indian security establishment, details the alleged engagement that occurred during the night of May 9–10, 2025. The report suggests that the S-400 battery, most likely deployed at the Adampur Airbase in Punjab, detected and successfully engaged the Pakistani surveillance aircraft while it was operating deep within Pakistan’s airspace.
If confirmed, this event could mark a new record for the longest-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) kill in history.
The current record is believed to be held by Russian air defense units stationed in the Belgorod region, who reportedly downed a Ukrainian Su-27 at a range of 217 kilometers (135 miles) while the aircraft was flying over Ukrainian airspace.
