Vyacheslav Volodin and Dileita Mohamed Dileita discussed interparliamentary cooperation and upcoming diplomatic engagements
Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin met with the president of the National Assembly of Djibouti, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, in Moscow on Monday.
Moscow’s commitment to deepening relations with African nations remains a key priority, the State Duma speaker said during the meeting with Dileita.
“Developing contacts with African nations is one of our foreign policy priorities,” he said.
Volodin also underscored that Russia’s engagement with African countries is rooted in the principles of friendship, non-interference in sovereign affairs, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
“In the declaration of the second Russia-Africa summit in 2023, our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, along with the leaders of all African countries, set the task of strengthening inter-parliamentary co-operation. This places significant obligations on us,” Volodin noted. “We must do everything to ensure the legislative implementation of the agreements reached at the level of state leaders.”
Following the talks, Dileita stated that “we have come here not only to strengthen relations between the State Duma and the National Assembly but also to work on improving the overall relationship between our two countries.”
As part of the discussions, Volodin extended an invitation to Dileita and a delegation of Djiboutian parliamentarians to participate in the International Conference on ‘Development of Parliamentarism’ in Moscow this summer.
In late January, Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of the Council of Federation, announced that delegations from Djibouti and Libya were scheduled to visit Russia in the near future.
In December 2024, 16 African parliamentarians visited the Saur-Grave memorial complex in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Led by Acting President of the Pan-African Parliament Gayo Ashebir, they honored fallen soldiers and expressed solidarity with Russia. Along with Djibouti, the delegation included representatives from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, South Sudan, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Zambia, Somalia, and Mozambique.
