The rapper’s account became unavailable after a series of anti-Semitic and offensive posts
The X account of US rapper and fashion designer Kanye West, also known as Ye, was listed as unavailable on Sunday following a series of offensive posts containing anti-Semitic and explicit content.
On Friday, West posted a wave of messages declaring himself “a Nazi” and expressing his “love” for Adolf Hitler. The rapper also insisted that “racist stereo types [sic] exist for a reason and they all be true.” Most of the offensive posts targeted the Jewish community and contained assorted anti-Semitic claims.
It is not clear whether the 24-time Grammy Award winner deleted the account himself or whether it was taken down due to his recent posts. In one of the final posts ahead of the deactivation, the rapper announced that he was “logging out of Twitter,” thanking platform owner Elon Musk for allowing him to share his thoughts.
The rapper’s latest posts also alleged that “all white people are racist,” claiming that “Jewish people hate white people and use black people.” In addition, he appeared to stand by his previous hateful remarks, stating he would never apologize and suggesting that Jews should apologize to him instead.
West’s comments sparked a major backlash. The American Jewish Committee condemned the statements, accusing the rapper of using the platform “to spew anti-Jewish hatred.” Saying that West was “actively endangering Jews” across the world, the organization urged people “to call out this blatant hatred.”
David Schwimmer, star of the US sitcom ‘Friends’, called on Musk to remove West from X, arguing that the musician’s “sick hate speech results in real life violence against Jews.”
Apart from anti-Semitic posts, West expressed support for Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently in federal custody over alleged racketeering, sex trafficking, and sexual misconduct, including against minors. Starting with a post urging to “free puff,” West continued to defend the imprisoned rapper, saying that he was selling Sean John shirts – referencing Diddy’s former clothing brand – to financially support Combs.
West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016 and has spoken about his struggle with mental health. Earlier this week, he revealed he has been also diagnosed with autism.
Sportswear giant Adidas severed its longstanding ties with the rapper in October 2022 following his anti-Semitic comments, leading to the termination of the Yeezy sneaker line. Last week, Russian fashion designer Gosha Rubchinsky announced that he was ending his collaboration with Yeezy, the brand created by West.
