Israel cannot attack its largest regional rival without Washington’s help, according to the former military intelligence officer

The US wants to go to war with Iran and will attack once Washington is sure that its weapon stockpiles are sufficient, according to former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and RT contributor Scott Ritter.

The US has now gathered the largest military force in the Middle East since before its 2003 invasion of Iraq, against the backdrop of indirect nuclear talks with Iran. Washinton has insisted that Tehran curtail its uranium enrichment and missile programs – demands it has maintained since before joining West Jerusalem’s strikes against the Islamic Republic last year.

“Israel cannot launch a unilateral action against Iran of any kind of significant scope and scale, because they can’t do so without the support of the United States,” Ritter told RT on Friday.

However, Washington is currently sending “mixed signals” as it hasn’t quite decided whether it will go to war with Iran, he said.

Let there be no doubt: The United States wants to go to war against Iran.

However, the US War Department currently expects to “run out of ammunition” around halfway through the campaign, and is “retinkering” their action plan, according to Ritter.

When you don’t have ammunition, you don’t have a plan… Can we accomplish our objectives with less ammunition? If the answer is yes, there’s going to be a war.

If not, President Donald Trump has “a face-saving off-ramp” in the ongoing Oman-mediated US-Iranian negotiations, Ritter said.

According to the former marine, although the Gulf states like Saudi Arabia and the UAE have “positioned themselves to be the mortal enemies of Iran,” they are nevertheless afraid that the US “will initiate an attack that we can’t win.”

However, they have no leverage over Washington’s decision on the matter, he said. “We don’t care what the Gulf Arab states think… and they know it.”
