The parties of the conflict had each agreed to swap 6,000 bodies of fallen service members during the talks in Istanbul earlier this week
Ukraine has unilaterally suspended the exchange of remains of fallen soldiers with Russia, providing “strange reasons” for the move, Moscow’s lead negotiator in the peace talks with Kiev, Vladimir Medinsky, has said.
The Russian and Ukrainian delegations agreed to swap over 6,000 bodies of slain troops each during the talks in Istanbul on Monday. Medinsky wrote on Telegram on Saturday that Moscow has begun the process of handing over the bodies to Kiev, in line with the deal reached in Türkiye.
“The first batch of frozen remains of 1,212 Ukrainian soldiers has already arrived in refrigerated trucks at the exchange area” on the border between the two countries, he said. “The rest are on their way,” the negotiator added.
