New Delhi has sent a delegation to New York to win support in condemning The Resistance Front

New Delhi is attempting to get the United Nations (UN) to condemn The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terrorist organization, according to local media reports. The group is suspected of being responsible for the Kashmir attack in April, which resulted in a new wave of hostilities between India and Pakistan.

An Indian delegation is in New York, where it will engage with the Monitoring Team of the 1267 Sanctions Committee, as well as with other UN partner countries to lobby for support, the Indian Express said, citing a source.

Additionally, the team is scheduled to meet with representatives from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the newspaper added.

Indian officials have repeatedly cited the United Nations Security Council’s statement from April 25, which emphasizes the importance of “holding accountable those responsible for terrorist acts, including perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors.” They have stated that India’s actions should be viewed within the context of this statement.

India and Pakistan were involved in a military confrontation last week, which was initiated by New Delhi in response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam in India’s Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.

Immediately after the April attack, TRF, which is believed to be a part of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility. Later reports indicated that the group has distanced itself from the attack.

According to New Delhi, investigations into the Kashmir attack have revealed communication links between the group and Pakistan. They also point out that the claims made by TRF and their subsequent reposting by known social media handles affiliated with LeT are self-incriminating.

On Tuesday, media reports said that Indian security forces in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir had killed 3 key terrorists who were members of TRF, including its local commander.
