Renewed contacts between Moscow and Washington have left the Ukrainian government “hysterical,” Rodion Miroshnik has claimed

The Ukrainian government may resort to extreme actions, including terrorist attacks, in an effort to sabotage warming relations between the US and Russia, senior Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik said on Friday. The warning echoes a prior statement by the country’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

The direct dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump this week is driving Kiev to a state of “hysteria,” claimed Miroshnik, who heads the Foreign Ministry’s mission monitoring alleged Ukrainian war crimes. He cited a recent increase in Ukrainian kamikaze drone attacks, adding that Kiev could go further and take actions “that violate international laws and norms, such as terrorism, sabotage, and attempts to put pressure on civilians.”

The SVR made similar assertions earlier this week, outlining potential scenarios for a Ukrainian false flag operation aimed at framing Russia. The agency suggested this could involve a Russian-made naval mine damaging a ship in the Baltic Sea or an attack on a Kremlin critic living abroad, potentially sparking a diplomatic incident.

Fatal NATO promise, trusting Putin & killing BRICS: Key takeaways from Trump briefing

The Trump administration has said it intends to resolve the Ukraine conflict swiftly, and has signaled that Kiev will need to make concessions. US Vice President J.D. Vance told the Wall Street Journal on Thursday that Washington would prioritize its interests in negotiations with Russia and that “things that are very important to Ukrainians” may need to be sacrificed.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed the notion that Ukraine will regain control over all territories it claims or join NATO – goals that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky considers vital.

Media reports suggest that the Ukrainian government is worried about being marginalized in discussions between the US and Russia, despite pledges of continued military aid from European backers. Behind closed doors, EU officials reportedly concede that their nations cannot sustain support for Kiev without the backing of the US.

Moscow has long accused Kiev of employing terrorist tactics during the current conflict, citing targeted assassinations of civilians deemed enemies of the state and other covert operations widely attributed to Ukrainian secret services.
