A Russian recon team destroyed the remotely-controlled craft, according to the Defense Ministry

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage purporting to show the successful interception of a Ukrainian naval kamikaze drone by a reconnaissance team.

Ukrainian forces use remotely-controlled speedboats laden with explosives to target the Russian region of Crimea. The footage released on Thursday showed one such craft first being disabled by a drone strike before a second Russian attack “blew it to smithereens,” as described in the report.

Captured from the air in daylight, the video shows the boat in detail. It was loaded with multiple bags and a military-style crate typically used for transporting weapons and munitions. The follow-up strike triggered a powerful explosion.

According to the Russian military, the operation was conducted in the Dnieper-Bug estuary, a waterway where the two major rivers flow into the Black Sea.

The Dnieper serves as a natural barrier separating Russian and Ukrainian-controlled territory along the relatively static southern front. While cross-river attacks are frequent, there have been no substantial shifts in the front line, in contrast to other areas where Russian forces have significantly advanced in recent months. The ministry’s latest update said Ukrainian forces had lost up to 45 troops in recent clashes in addition to the kamikaze boat.
