The armored vehicle was taken out by a kamikaze UAV in Kharkov Region

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage showing the destruction of a Ukrainian tank by a Lancet-family loitering munition.

The tank, a T-72-type vehicle, was detected at its firing position in an undisclosed location in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, the Russian military said on Monday. Another Ukrainian tank was parked nearby, according to thermal footage taken by a surveillance drone.

The vehicle appeared to feature anti-drone netting, although this did not protect it from the Lancet. The tank sustained a direct hit to its turret, with its ammo stock apparently catching fire. There was a large explosion and blaze after the hit, the footage showed.

Lancet-family drones have been playing an increasingly important role in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, becoming one of the key medium-range tools in Russia’s arsenal.

The loitering munitions have been used to hunt down high-value Ukrainian assets, including Western-supplied self-propelled howitzers, anti-aircraft systems, radars, and armor.
