The countries trying to contain Moscow refuse to recognize that the unipolar world order is over, Sergey Naryshkin says

The West may try to foment a global conflict that would send shockwaves through Europe and Asia in an effort to cling to its hegemony, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has said.

In an interview with the Russian magazine Razvedchik (‘Spy’) released on Tuesday, Naryshkin accused Western countries of refusing to acknowledge that the era of their unchallenged domination of the planet is coming to an end.

According to the spy chief, the West is ready to resort to dire measures to avert this outcome.

“One of the possible medium-term scenarios is an attempt by the West to unleash a global armed conflict centering in Eurasia,” he argued, describing the scenario as “a proven way for global capital to get out of the crisis.”

Naryshkin also suggested that the West is well aware that the unipolar world is becoming a relic of the past, but is influenced by “the inertia of their colonial thinking and deep-rooted racism.”

However, he pointed out that there are many responsible actors on the global stage who together are “capable of resisting the Anglo-American escapades and independently resolving any problems, and preventing the planet from sliding into World War III.”

While clinging on to global hegemony, the West continues to support Kiev to impose “a war of attrition on Russia” in an effort to fracture the country’s society while fighting Moscow “to the last Ukrainian,” Naryshkin said. He also suggested that Europeans could be next in line to be forced to fight Russia once Ukraine is bled dry.

This escalation won’t exhaust Russia, but rather “will bring closer the strategic defeat of the West itself,” the official warned.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has consistently advocated for a multipolar world – which he said has already become a reality – suggesting that it is only threatened by the “violent anarchy” promoted by the West.

Moscow also views the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war to contain Russia. It has for years voiced concerns about NATO’s unchecked expansion towards its border, while regarding the US-led bloc as an existential threat.
