Over 170 participants from 15 countries are discussing education, health, and digital branding

A forum bringing together graduates of Soviet and Russian universities is underway in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Russia’s agency for international cooperation announced on Wednesday.

According to Rossotrudnichestvo, the event involves more than 170 participants from 15 countries across the Middle East and North Africa, including academics from universities and medical institutions, officials from national ministries, and members of alumni associations representing the Arab world and Africa.

One of the gathering’s key focuses is on branding and positioning educational institutions within the digital landscape. Attendees are exploring emerging trends in digital marketing, strategies for managing digital brand identity, and ways to avoid common branding pitfalls. After the event, participants will be awarded professional development certificates.

In a message to attendees, the deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Pavel Shevtsov, said the world is going through a period of major change in politics and economics, as well as the education and humanitarian spheres.

“Russian and Soviet graduates play an important role in these processes. We are confident that our forum will be an important step towards the development of cooperation between our countries in the fields of education and health,” he said.

Russian Ambassador to Egypt Georgy Borisenko noted that universities of the USSR and Russia have trained hundreds of thousands of highly qualified specialists for the region over many decades. He said it was an honor for Russia to welcome the participation of the Egyptian minister of higher education and scientific research, Mohamed Ayman Ashour – an alumnus of a leading institution in Moscow – at the forum.

Addressing participants, Ashour conveyed his pride in having completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARKHI), and underlined the valuable practical, scientific, and professional experience he acquired there.

He also highlighted Egypt’s keen interest in contributing to the creation of a unified BRICS university.

This gathering in Cairo is part of a broader global initiative by Rossotrudnichestvo, which since 2022 has held annual alumni forums in various regions worldwide. It is the second time such a forum is taking place in the Middle East or Africa.
